Biography

Dr.Mohamad Aljofan is currently an assistant professor at Monash University, School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He is particularly interested in the research areas of antiviral development and viral immune evasion. During the past six years he has been conducting research into the recently emerged Hendra and Nipah viruses, both novel zoonotic agents with no effective therapeutics. Their classification as Biological Safety Level 4 (BSL4) pathogens, and their inclusion as National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Category C priority pathogens make novel antiviral drug development a high priority and this has been the core of his recent research.
